OKLAHOMA CITY --- On July 8 the Amateur Softball Association (ASA) of America and USA Softball issued a press release that Barbara Jordan (Northridge, Calif.) relinquished her position as National Team Assistant Coach for personal reasons. Below reflects a statement from Jordan regarding the specifics of the reason due to a personal medical issue. Former USA Softball athlete Michelle Gromacki (Fullerton, Calif.) accepted the coaching position with the 2010 USA Softball Women’s National Team in place of Jordan.

"It is a privilege to be a part of USA Softball and I am disappointed that my health issues have limited my opportunities to be a part of the organization for the 2010 events,” said Jordan. “My thoughts have been with the players and staff as they continue their success. I look forward to rejoining the team in the near future."

She is taking a temporary leave of absence from USA Softball to deal with a medical condition of a growth in her spine which is currently limiting her duties as a coach.

“Barbara has been an invaluable and loyal member of the USA Softball Coaching staff for several years and will continue to be a member of our staff as she works through the health related issues that she is faced with at this time,” said USA Softball National Team Director Ronnie Isham. “All of us at USA Softball wish Barbara a successful and speedy recovery and look forward to her returning to the field as soon as possible."
