You have girls! Girls can't play sports! That's a boy thing! You don't want your daughter growing up to be like a boy! Well... as a father of two daughters, I use to think just that. I NEVER would of imagined that my daughters could be athletes. Let alone really good athletes. If you still think like I did... It's time to wise up. Because girls, and yes I mean the girlie girls as well, are becoming fantastic athletes. If your a parent keeping your daughter out of sports because she's a GIRL, it may be time to seriously change your way of thinking. Stay with me on this...
Sports isn't the answer for every young girl. Just like, nor is it the answer for every young boy. Although, even if it works out that a sport isn't for some young boy, the fact is, more boys are given the chance to try out for sports than girls are. Our daughters should, at the least, be given a chance to try. It's YOU the parent that's responsible for giving your kid that nudge.
Many girls, even at very young ages are eager to try out for a sport. As much as, or even more so than boys. The few girls I've witnessed that needed that nudge, even the ones with very low skill levels, like what they are doing and want to continue playing. Plus the physical and social benefits of having your daughter play some type of sport is enormous for her, your family as well as the entire community you live in. Seriously!
Today is the best day to start looking into your community as to what sports programs are available for your daughter. Ask your friends, ask your neighbors. Don't start with the excuses, because you will find the time and you will feel good about what your doing! It's for your daughter. So ask her RIGHT NOW, regardless of what age she is as to what sport looks like it would be the most fun for her to play. Soccer, Softball, Basketball and Volleyball are very popular in most areas. Soccer and Softball start at about 6 years old. Lacrosse is an up and coming sport that is starting to BOOM around the country and especially in Southern California. Again, check right now and see what is popular in your area and JUMP IN. If it's not a thing for your daughter, at least you've given her the option. That's something most young girls just don't get.
