 | Northridge, CA - by a Proud Parent - Justin Guarini American Idol season 1 finalist, performed the National Anthem for a packed crowd at the Northridge Association for Girls Softball (NAGS) league yesterday to start off the official Opening Day ceremony. Also, guest speaker pitching great, Mark Gubicza for the 1985 World Series Champions Kansas City Royals threw out the first pitch to close the ceremony and officially kick off the 2008 season. "It's been a few years since we've had a pro player come speak at our opeining day ceremony. So what an honor it is to have real celebrities take thier time to come out EARLY on a cold rainy Saturday morning and start off our season this year. This is just fantastic for our girls" A big THANK YOU would also like to be shouted out to the LAFD for Leading the Opening Day Parade this year as well as every year as they have faithfully done so in the past. Plus another big THANK YOU to the LAPD Devonshire Division for keeping the girls safe from traffic this year. The parade pace was so much safer than it has been in past years. Your presents was truly appreciated. Sports is such a benifit for all our youth, especially in our digital age. So how inspiring it is to have so many people come together to put on an event such as this. The 2008 openining day ceremony will truly be marked down as a most memorable one in our league history. | | |

 | One grew up in the Midwest, skiing on the weekends mostly at first and doing everything in her power to keep up with her older brothers. The other was born in Montana to parents who were living their lives around skiing. Kaylin Richardson and T.J. Lanning may come from different backgrounds but they share a passion for ski racing that began with supportive families who relished seeing their children have fun careening down the mountain. "I pretty much was a boy until I was in seventh grade," says Richardson, who continually chased older brothers Chris and Tom around the Twin Cities of Minnesota, home to the Richardson family. "Everything they were doing I wanted to do," she added. Kaylin's dad says his daughter didn't understand that she could ski faster than just about everyone else at first because Kaylin always crossed the finish line and rushed off to join other friends having snowball fights at the base.
